Wishing to train in Psychotherapy with Children
Wednesday May 17, 2006
Dear Alice Miller,
I have read all of your books, several times, and you have been a very inspiring figure for me.
My background is in Human Rersouces - with a Master's degree in Management, but I have been thinking of becoming a Child Psychotherapist for several years now.
I am 35 years old and I wish to start a training in Psychotherapy with Children.
I experienced domestic violence during all my childhood as well as emotional abuse both in personal and professional contexts.
i have been researching on the training offered in Europe, but I am still not sure by which course I should start my training considering I have no prior education or experience in medicine or health sciences.
I would be most grateful if you could offer me advice on the best route to take as I am extremely motivated to fulfill what I consider to be my 'life mission'.
In advance I thank you very much for your great support and I look forward to hearing from you.
AM: Unfortunately, I don't know of any training that would offer you what you are looking for. Try to find the suffering of the small girl you were, to become familiar with her and to learn to have empathy for her, in the presence of an enlightened witness. This would teach you more than lectures at universities. There is yet no one university in the world where the effects of child mistreatment are being lectured. Before you decide who should be your therapist you may want to read my FAQ list.
