a question regarding a referral
Wednesday July 16, 2008

Dr. Miller: i am a psychologist in the USA, and i have been a fan of your theories and perspective on childhood trauma for years. in fact, i was briefly emailing you sometime in the eighties. i continue to read your books and very appreciate your understanding and perspective on trauma.

however, at this time, i want to make a request of you. i have a friend who has a daughter, and i have known the daughter since she was a baby. she just recently graduated from swathmore college in the united states. she is a classical pianist and a student of german. after graduation she traveled to germany, and lived with a family in dresden. one day while traveling on the train back to dresden after visiting a nearby town, she was raped, pushed into a restroom and raped. she reported the incident, along with a friend, the following day, but did not receive satisfactory help from the police. she also spoke with the mother of a friend. she received excellent advice and help from her friend's mother. this friend's mother is a psychologist who, unfortuntely lives on the other side of germany, and knows no one in dresden she recommend as a therapist. the daughter of my friend has now asked me if i know of anyone she can begin to see regularly for psychotherapy. i don't know of anyone. so, i am asking you if you know of anyone that you would recommend, or of any groups or agencies, or services, she can utilize at this time. i would very much appreciate hearing from you and i value your opinion or referral. i know you are probably extremely busy, but i am at a loss here what to recommend to this young woman. i will wait for your reply, much gratitude in advance. a. p.

AM: I am sorry but I don't know any therapist whom I could recommend. For that reason I published my FAQ List (on the page "articles") which can help your niece to find somebody she feels would be good for her.
