The fear after childbirth
Tuesday August 14, 2007

Dear Alice Miller,

I was beaten and humiliated by my father as a child and didn't really feel loved by my mother. I have recently given birth to a lovely baby boy but I am in a constant state of fear and panic all the time. I have been diagnosed with post natal depression but am not taking any drugs. I am so worried about not being a good parent to my child who I love so much but I also feel a bit afraid of him. I can't understand my feelings as I was so looking forward to having this child. I so want to give him a secure and loving environment but feel anxious all the time. I don't know if there is any part of your works that deal with this?

Kind regards, M.

AM: Maybe the book "The Truth Will Set You Free" can be helpful, but above all try to FEEL your emotions, take them seriously and talk about them to your partner or friends. They want to tell you something you need to know. Don't take antidepressants.
